Muslim Community urged to pay Zakat to promote development

An Educationist and Leading Fellow of the Ghana Muslim Academy, Abdul-Wab Abubakar has called on the Muslim Community to honour the payment of Zakat to promote development. 

He said the payment of Zakat will not only improve social conditions of the poor and needy in society but ensure social harmony and integration.  

Zakat is a mandatory fund for Muslims to physically and spiritually purify their yearly earnings that are over and above what is required to provide one's essential needs and that of the family. 

Mr. Abubakar said this when he delivered this year’s annual Mahgid Ramadan lectures in Accra.
