Uganda opposition chief launches presidential bid

Uganda opposition leader, Kizza Besigye, has entered next year's election race against veteran President Yoweri Museveni. 

Mr. Besigye, who is a key leader of the Forum for Democratic Change, FDC, is currently in Britain and submitted his nomination form in absentia. 

Current FDC President Mugisha Muntu, and a retired army general, has also submitted nomination forms to run for president. 

Besigye, a three-time presidential election challenger and a former personal doctor to President Museveni, made his last bid for Uganda's top job in 2011. 

Sacked Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, last month also announced his intention to challenge his former close ally President Museveni, sparking criticism from the government. 

President Museveni, 70, has already been given the green light as the candidate for the ruling National Resistance Movement, by the party's top body.
