Upper East: Minerals Commission begins investigations into loss of lives from exposure to poisonous gas The Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission has commenced investigations into an accident at the Shanxii mine in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region. It will be recalled that three underground miners lost their lives after inhaling poisonous gas. The three were among 17 underground workers who were exposed to smoke in one of the tunnels. The commission in its preliminary investigations has made certain recommendations to Shanxii mining company to forestall a future occurrence. Key among them is that the Shanxii mining company recruits experienced shaft bosses and blast men who are Ghanaians. Commenting on the recommendations, the PRO of Shanxii Ghana Limited, Maxwell Wooma, said management has taken note of the recommendations and has authorized the immediate recruitment of five shaft bosses to man the various shafts. He added that by close of the week they will have arrived at the mine to commence work. GBC
