Man allegedly defiles 9-year old niece; compensates her with Kalypo 

The Ashaiman Circuit Court is hearing a case of a 9-year old girl who was allegedly defiled by her uncle Kofi Sekyi and tried to compensate her with Kalypo, a fruit juice.  

Narrating the incident, the victim who was eight at the time of the incident, said she had been staying with the uncle for a year at Jericho, a suburb of Ashaiman.  

She said one fateful Thursday night while the neighbourhood experienced a typical black-out, she was awoken by her uncle.  

Although she was reluctant, her uncle removed her underwear and forcefully made love to her. 

She said she started bleeding and the uncle gave her kalypo to drink but the blood did not stop. She said the uncle later smeared some medicine at her private part but could not stop the bleeding.  

She added that she lost consciousness as a result only to regain consciousness at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.  

Her uncle Kofi Sekyi has denied raping her. 

The Presiding Judge, Lydia Osei-Marfo has requested a relative who happens to play a lead role in taking the girl to the hospital to appear before the court for questioning and has adjourned the case to tomorrow.
