Mass burial service held for nine SDA members in A/R


A mass burial service has been held at Ahwiaa near Kumasi in the Ashanti region for nine members of the North Meduma congregation of the SDA church who died through a road accident early this month on their way from a church event at Agona.

At the church service were nine different caskets containing the mortal remains which were handed over to the bereaved families for burial at their respective preferred cemetaries.

 The burial service was well attended by leaders and members from the various Conferences of the SDA church in the Ashanti region, members of the various bereaved families, loved ones and sympathizers. 

Also present to express their condolences were a government delegation led by the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu, and another one of the main opposition party, NPP, led by its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Benard Antwi Boasiako. 

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku represented the Police command. 

The congregation prayed to repose the soul of the deceased members to God, healing for those injured and also for divine protection for the members alive. 

The immediate past General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie donated a cash of five thousand towards the funeral rites of the deceased on behalf of the party's 2016 Presidential hopeful, Nana Akufo Addo while the KMA's Chief Executive, on behalf of the government, pledged to take up the cost of all the caskets which amounts to about 29 thousand Ghana Cedis. 

It would be recalled that on Easter Saturday the 4th of this month, a Mecedes Benz Sprinter bus conveying members of the North Meduma congregation of the SDA church from Agona in the Sekyere South district of Ashanti got involved in an accident at Tano Odumase resulting in the death of the nine members on board with many others injured. 

The dead included a man and his two sons with the wiff still receiving medical care at the accident ane emergency unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. Also dead is a nine-month old baby.
