Veep Office denies Alleged involvement in Suhyen chieftaincy dispute


The Office of the Vice President has noted with dismay a number of online publications, with the above headline, claiming that a chieftaincy dispute has recurred in Suhyen, near Koforidua in the Eastern Region, following a visit by the Vice President to the town on Saturday. 

This was contained in a statement issued by the office of the vice president and signed by the presidential staffer James Agyenim-Boateng in Accra on Tuesday.

The statement said the publications are unfounded and without merit, especially as Mr K.B. Amissah-Arthur did not visit or call on any chief (as claimed by the publications) in Suhyen when he inspected the community’s involvement in the National Sanitation Day exercise, which came off in the Eastern Region last Saturday. 

The statement further wish to correct the erroneous publications and urge the public to disregard same.


It may be recalled that a section of the media on Monday April 6 2015 reported that violence broke following a visit by the Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur to one of the factions Nana Frimpong Manso, who was meeting with his elders to update them on discussions he had with the vice president who paid a courtesy call on him during the National Sanitation Day.

According to the reports members of the other faction of Nana Sarpong- hearing of the Vice president's visit to Nana Frimpong Manso, invaded the meeting, hurled stones and traded blows in a free-for-all fight with the Nana Frimpong Manso faction.

Resulting in the dead of the eight people and others sustaining injuries.
