“I owe GBC a lot” - Deputy Local Gov’t Minister

The Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Nii Lante Vanderpuije, feels he still has something to give to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) as he believes he owes the Corporation a lot, having developed and pursued his broadcasting career there. 

The Deputy Minister said this last Thursday when he made a studio appearance at GBC Sunrise FM in Koforidua to formally inform the public of the Fifth National Sanitation Day on Saturday, April 4th which will be hosted by the Eastern Region. 

He disclosed that he met ace broadcasters like Beatrice Aidoo, James Amartey and Richard Quartey when he joined GBC, and the current generation of broadcasters should emulate their sterling qualities and try to exceed them. 

He lamented that the Corporation did not do enough to keep most of its excellent human resource which new media organisations easily poached with attractive offers. Working at GBC, Mr Vanderpuije noted, requires a lot of sacrifice, discipline and commitment. 

He also expressed worry that no commentaries are run on radio or television anymore, as he considers what pertains now as mere noise in the airwaves. 

The Minister was however quick to add that GBC still stands tall in newsgathering and sports presentation which he urged the corporation to harness to its advantage to create a continental brand for itself. 

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frimpong, who was with Mr Vanderpuije, commended Sunrise FM on behalf of the Regional Minister and Regional Coordinating Council for being the pacesetter in media and communication in the Region. 

She urged the public to support the National Sanitation Day activities and turn out in their numbers to join the cleanup exercise.
