Christians Observe Palm Sunday


Christians throughout the country last Sunday held a special service known as Palm Sunday to mark Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem before his death over 2000 years ago. In some churches, the congregation led by the Sunday School children, went on a procession carrying palm fronds and singing Hosanna songs. 

Preaching the sermon on the theme “Save Us Now, Lord,” at the Calvary Methodist Church at Oda Nkwantanan in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, the Synod Secretary of the Oda Diocese, Very Rev Isaac Boateng, said Christ’s entry into Jerusalem was the genesis of his sacrifice to mankind to save them from sin. 

He explained that Christ did not come to the world as a materialistic messiah as perceived by the Jews, but rather to offer his life to save sinners. Very Rev Boateng advised Christians to follow the boldness that their redeemer used to save them and stand firm against all tribulations. 

He cautioned them against using only the occasion as a proselytes and live according to the principles of Christianity by refraining from all the vices including bribery, corruption and selfish gains. 

Very Rev Boateng exhorted the congregation to use the Palm Sunday to cleanse themselves spiritually and prepare towards the crucifixion of Christ which is one of the important dates in the Christian calendar globally.
