Parliament: Minority Women Caucus applauds NPP “controversial Affirmative Action” The Minority Women Caucus in Parliament has applauded the National Executive Committee of the NPP for what the Caucus termed the bold and historic decision to give meaning to Affirmative Action. The Caucus says the decision by the Party to allow only women to contest seating female MPs in the upcoming Constituency primaries in a bid to retain the current number of seats held by NPP women in Parliament should be lauded by all well-meaning Ghanaians. In a statement issued to the Press Corp in Parliament and signed by the Chairperson of the Caucus Esther Obeng-Dappah, the NPP Women MPs entreated the National Executive Committee and the leadership to stand firm and ensure the implementation of the decision. Esther Obeng-Dappah however, stated that the women MPs are not afraid of competition. They are prepared to face anybody at the constituency primaries. The MP for Ablekuma Ursula Owusu said the MPs were happy to hear that the Party intends to roll out it affirmative plans to improve the level of women participation in Parliament. Gift Eugenia Kusi, MP for Tarkwa- Nsuaem also observed that the decision is a great step for Ghana’s democracy and the NPP. GBC
