Breed national interest - Economic Expert

An International Relations and Economic Expert, Alexander Kwame Archine, says the major problem hampering development in African countries is the absence of a national interest.  

He said the continent's inability to unite and develop a common goal is denying its people the confidence to see its internal problem and the fact that these problems can be solved by the same people.  

Mr. Archine was delivering a lecture organised by the Institute of Diplomatic Practice and Development Policies, in Accra.  

He said Africa can achieve sustainable development only if its people learn to depend on themselves.  

This, he said, must be spearheaded by political leaders through respect for public opinion.

Mr. Archine said critical areas such as agriculture and manufacturing should be strengthened to drive development.  

He also touched on the need to design the continents educational system to suit domestic job opportunities while prioritising the use of education.
