NPP Sets May 24 For Parliamentary Primaries

The National Executive Committee of the NPP has approved the road map for the organization of the party’s Parliamentary primaries. 

At its NEC meeting on Monday, the party also adopted a proposal for only female aspirants to contest the 16 parliamentarian seats currently held by women. 

A statement signed by Party's General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong set 24th May as the date for the Parliamentary primaries. 

Opening of nominations for the parliamentary primaries is on the 30th of March this year and will be closed on 10th of April. 

This will be followed by the vetting of aspirants from the 13th to the 17 of April. 

The results of the vetting will be announced on the 20th of April. 

Appeals at the regional levels if any will be taken between the 29th and 24th the same month. 

Appeals at National level, if any will also be taken between April 24 to 30. 

Notice of poll is April 24, 2015. 

Elections will then be held on the 24th of May this year. 

The statement said if approved the following will be paid as both filing and development fees by the Parliamentary aspirants:

 I.   Each Parliamentary aspirant in Orphan Constituencies will pay a Filing fee of ten thousand Ghana cedis

 II.   Each Sitting Member of Parliament seeking re-election will also pay a Filing fee of ten thousand Ghana cedis

 III.   Each Parliamentary aspirant in constituencies with sitting NPP MP will pay a Filing fee of  ten thousand Ghana cedis and Development fee  of  twenty thousand Ghana cedis. 

The statement said it was agreed that the following categories of persons shall be given 50 percent rebate on both the filling and development fees:

 I.   Women
 II.   Youth
 III.   People with Disability

The National Executive Committee has authorised that the General-Secretary in consultation with the Regional executives will vary election dates as deemed appropriate.

The meeting also adopted a proposal for only female aspirants to contest the 16 female Members of Parliament in their respective constituencies.
