District Level Elections Regulation 2015 Laid Before Parliament The stance of Parliament on the cancelled district assembly elections will be made known on Friday. This follows the completion of work by the Special Committee and the subsequent presentation of their report on the matter. The Leadership of the House, the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation, the Local Government and Rural Development and the Finance Ministries were tasked by the Speaker to see the way forward on the organization of the elections. Parliament in December last year passed CI 85 to give the EC the mandate to demarcate electoral areas and to organize the election, but the EC went ahead to open nomination before the maturation of the Instrument. This led to the legal tussle resulting in the Supreme Court directing the EC to open fresh nominations and start the entire process afresh. GBC
