Tunis museum attack: Gunman Laabidi was known to security services, says PM

At least 19 people were killed in shootings at a museum in Tunis yesterday.

The Tunisian health minister says two Tunisians and tourists from Japan, Italy, Colombia, Britain, Australia, France, Poland and Spain were also among those killed in the attack at the Bardo Museum.  Security forces killed two gunmen but are still searching for accomplices.

The UK Foreign Office is yet to confirm whether any Briton died.  Officials in Tunisia say more than 40 people, including tourists and Tunisians, were injured.

Meanwhile Tunisia's Prime Minister, Habib Essi says the gunman who carried out the attack at the Bardo museum is known to the authorities.

Mr Essi said security services had flagged up one of the attackers, Yassine Laabidi, but were not aware of any links to known militant groups.
