Helicopter carrying gold crash land at Esuofua in Eastern Region 

A helicopter carrying a consignment of gold from the Obuasi Mine of Anglogold Ashanti to Accra has crash land at Esuofua, a remote village near Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region.  

According to the Birim Central Municipal Fire Officer, Daniel Allotey the helicopter did not explode and there were no serious casualties.  

Three people, including the pilot were said be on board.  He said it was difficult for fire officers and police from the Eastern region to get to the location because the helicopter crashed in a thick forest.  

In an interview, Mr Allotey said his office received a call from the police at about 2:00 pm.  

Following the call, a joint team of police and fire service personnel were dispatched to the scene.  

Mr Allotey, further explained that the pilot had earlier called Anglogold and another helicopter had carried the three and the consignment to Accra before they got to the scene.
