Gov't needs 100 million dollars to complete maternity block complex at Komfo Anokye Government needs one hundred million dollars to complete the maternity block complex at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, KATH. The 40 year old structure has become a white elephant due to lack of funds. The outgoing Minister of Health, Dr. Kweku Agyeman Mensah made this known as he appeared before the Committee on Government Assurances on Wednesday March 18, 2015. He said the thousand bed project is a capital intensive on albeit its completion, will bring great relieve to both patients and health workers and boost healthcare delivery. He said the project’s completion is dear to President Mahama and so a document on it should soon come to parliament. Another issue that the Committee were concerned about the utilization of installed MRI and CT scan equipment at KATH. The chief Director of the Ministry of Health, Sylvester Anemena, said the use of the equipment for income generation will be difficult but the Ministry will direct the hospital to ensure it raises revenue for its maintenance. The Ranking Member of the Committee on Government Assurances, Joe Baidoo-Ansah encouraged the Ministry to ensure they raised their IGF from the equipment. GBC
