Parliament suspends sitting on Finance Minister's account


The conduct of some Minority members of Parliament almost led the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho to call the marshal of the House to drive them out of the Chamber. 

Standing Order one Hundred of Parliament says the Speaker may order an MP whose conduct is grossly disorderly to withdraw from the House. 

The actions of the Minority MPs were triggered by the procedure by which the House would grant the Minister of finance Seth Tekper audience. 

It was advertised yesterday that the Minister would be in Parliament to present a motion on a review of the budget statement and economic policy government.  

However, the Majority Leader Alban Bagbin today asked that the Minister present a statement to the House. 

The minority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu sought an explanation of the change of procedure for the Minister to appear.

The Majority leader Alban Bagbin however prayed the Speaker to allow the Minister to present a statement based on Standing Order 70 of Parliament. It gives clearance for a Minister on of government policy.

The Speaker however, had a tough time making his ruling due to the incessant heckling by some MPs. He however had to suspend the House for more than 30 minutes on the advice of the Majority leader so he could have a meeting with the Leadership of the house.
