Generator Noise

The use of generators is gaining popularity in the country with the current load shedding. It provides comfort for those who can afford it, but those who cannot, have to endure the sound and smell that these generators create. Radio Ghana's Current Affairs Programme, “Behind The News,” looks at how the use of generators is affecting people especially in the night. Charles Reindorf who lives in a residential area in Tema says the sound can be very disturbing. He suggests that residential areas must be cautioned to stop the use of industrial generators which generate most noise. A Medical Practitioner, Dr Daniel Ebo admitted that the sound and smell emanating from the generator has health implications and advised the public to go for regular checks. For his part, the Head of Environmental Quality at the EPA, Emmanuel Apor said the sound from a generator can be classified as noise pollution. He shed some light on the type of generators suitable for residential and industrial areas.
