Motorway thieves steal French jewels

Armed thieves have stolen millions of euros' worth of jewels from two high security vans at a French motorway toll booth.

About 15 attackers seized the vans at about midnight yesterday on the motorway at Avallon, 220 kilometres south-east of Paris.

The drivers are said to be unhurt and the vans were later found burned a short distance away. The gang is reported to have fled in several vehicles towards Paris.
