Concerned Residents of Kasoa appeal for proper drainage systems Concerned Residents of Kasoa Pentecost Down has called on Ms Mavis Hawa Koomson, Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency and the Municipal Assembly to provide them with drainage systems to avert perennial flooding in the area. They said anytime it rained the whole area got flooded because of absence of drainage systems in Kasoa townships. Sheikh Ibn Moro, a resident told the Ghana News Agency that their efforts to get the Member of Parliament to redeem her promises to provide them with drainage systems was to no avail. “Surprisingly, she has been meeting with some of the party executives in this area but she has never made mention of the promise she made in 2012 general elections. “The MP also promised to liaise with landlords in Kasoa to facilitate develop projects in the township but till date there is nothing like that that I am aware of,” Sheikh Moro said. Ms Evelyn Nyarkomah, a trader also said Ms Koomson had disappointed them, especially the women in the Zongo community. She said they voted her into power because they believed that as a woman and a mother, she would deliver on her campaign promises and bring in basic development projects such as drainage systems to help solve the perennial flooding in the area. “In fact, we are at a lost and we are contemplating whether we should continue voting after all, because we do not know who again will have our sufferings at heart. “We are appealing to Madam Hawa Koomson to come to our aid by liaising with the local authorities to fix the problem,” she added. Mr Prince Nyamekye, a mechanic, said anytime it rained he could not go to work because the whole house would be flooded. “What I don’t understand is that every year we pay our royalties to the Revenue Division of the Municipal Assembly, yet we don’t see any development in our area. What are they using our monies for and who do we hold accountable? “As for the MP, the little said about her the better. As for me, ever since we voted for her I have never set eyes on her in this area before and I always wonder if she will come next time soliciting for our votes,” he said. Madam Efee Kusi appealed to the MP to use part of her MP fund to construct drainage systems for the area. “I believe if she really wanted to help us, that should not be a problem for her, because her share of the MP fund can easily construct the drainage systems for the area,” she said.
