Ban on motor bikes in Bawku lifted

The Seven year ban on motor riding in Bawku in the Upper East Region has been reviewed.

The review by the interior Ministry now allows men to ride motorbikes between the hours of 6am and 6pm.

Confirming this to the media, the MCE for Bawku, Issahaku Bukari said the lifting of the ban comes as a great relief to the people as it will help revive and boost economic activities in the municipality.

Bawku has been under curfew since 2008 following sporadic shooting incidents that have claimed many lives.

The ban on motor riding was to among other things forestall their use for criminal activities.

Mr Bukari said the earlier directive that allowed women and civil servants to use motor bikes is still in force.

He cautioned the youth not to abuse the opportunity since the review is partial and a complete lifting on the ban depends on how they conduct themselves within this period.
