Catholic Educational Institutions will not feel intimidated by threat of sanctions - CBC


The Catholic Bishops’ Conference (CBC) has directed heads of all catholic-affiliated schools to remain resolute and continue with all religious practices and training associated with the catholic faith despite a government order for school heads to avoid imposing religious beliefs on students.  

A statement signed by the President of the Conference, Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu said Catholic Educational Institutions will not feel intimidated by threat of sanctions.  

The directive comes as President Mahama warned that  heads of schools found to be imposing religious practices on students of other religious faiths will be punished.  

Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu said members have followed with grave concern  recent developments in Ghana with respect to calls for unregulated religious practices in schools.

In a statement, the CBC states that no citizen of Ghana should allow themselves  to be cowed down by any intimidation or threat of sanction from any individual.

The statement added that it expects school heads to continue to manage schools in ways and practices that conforms to the  Catholic identity and mission. 

The CatholicBishops Conference says it is  however, opened to dialogue that will bring consensus, to resolve issues amicably.
