REGSEC to begin "Operation Cow Leg" programme

The National Security Secretariat has released funds to the Ashanti Regional Security Council, REGSEC  to carry out its programme code named "Operation Cow Leg" to eventually flush out the fulani herdsmen from the Asante Akyem North District.

The operation, which will comprise a team of police and military personnel to eject the nomads and their cattle from the Afram Plains portion of the district, seeks to restore lasting peace and security to the area.

The presence of the herdsmen and their destructive cattle has caused unrest, agitation and insecurity in the district where both the citizens and the nomads have been at each other's throat.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong made this known in Kumasi when he responded to questions from students of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College at the start of their 5-day study tour of the region as part of their academic work.

Dr. Sarpong, who is also Chairman of the Ashanti REGSEC, said operation cow leg, which will start next week, will see some of the security personnel stationed temporarily in the Afram Plains till the objectives have been accomplished.

The delegation was made up of 14 staff and 50 students.

In an interview, the leader of the delegation, Assistant Commandant of the College J.O. Kontor told Radio Ghana that the report of the students will be made available to the government.
