Supreme Court Nullifies District Assembly Elections 

The District Level Election which was scheduled for next Tuesday will no longer come off following an annulment by the Supreme Court. 

According to the Supreme Court, the EC breached the law at the time it opened and closed nominations for the electoral process.

The Supreme Court said the nominations were not conducted under any existing legislation. 

During the period when the process started and ended, CI 85 which demarcates electoral areas was still before Parliament. 

The Supreme Court therefore said the Commission acted unconstitutionally by opening and closing nominations ahead of the passage of CI 85. 

The court has therefore ordered the EC to start the nomination process afresh.
