Suspected soldier robber nabbed A huge crowd on Friday dawn gathered at the Bono-Ahafo Regional Police Headquarters in Sunyani trying to catch a glimpse of a soldier who was part of a six man suspected armed robber group arrested by the Police at the Yawhima Police check point, near Sunyani. The Group suspected to have robbed the Offices of a Catholic Church run Micro Finance Company, BACCSOD at Wenchi, to steal unspecified amount of money after overpowering the security guard on duty. Briefing the GBC, the Bono-Ahafo Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Alhassan Maama Arhin, gave the names of the suspects as Staff Sergeant Alhassan Hamid, 42, Sherrif Adams, alias Alhaji Fresh, 31, Osei Kuffour, 32, Kwadwo Francis, 25, Esmond Barwuah, 27 and Kwadwo Yeboah, 32. He alleged that the group had stormed the BACCSOD Office in Wenchi and overpowered the Security Guard at gunpoint. They then broke into the offices and stole some amount of money after tying up the security guard. According to the Crime Officer, the suspected robbers were arrested at the Yawhima Barracks, thanks to a tip off. They were at the time in a taxi cab with registration number, ER 3527 U. A search conducted according to Supt. Arhin yielded a military uniform, two pistols, two knives, a screw driver, a strong decoder, a cutlass and a crowbar. The Crime Officer revealed that some of the suspects were already on the Police wanted list, with Sherrif Adams said to have jumped bail while facing earlier robbery charges. He alleged the group is behind robbery attacks on rural banks in Bechem, Bomaa, and Sunyani. They were also suspected to have robbed Tonket Company limited, a Nestle distributor in Sunyani. Supt. Arhin continued that already an alleged victim, Tugri Abu has already identified the Soldier, Staff Sergeant Hamid and kwadwo Francis as having robbed him of his laptop, iPad, mobile phone, passport and one point five million CFA cash. The Crime Officer said investigations are ongoing and they hope to put them before court. GBC
