State drops case against Nayele cocaine suspects

The state has dropped the charges against six people accused of conniving with Nayele Ametefe to traffick 12 kg of cocaine through Kotoka International Airport to the United Kingdom. 

In court today, Chief State Attorney, Peneloppe Ann Marmmattah disclosed that the state does not intend prosecuting the suspects. 

In furtherance to that the state this morning filed a nolle prosequoi to drop the case. 

The defence team welcomed the decision of the prosecution noting that it should have come a long time ago. 

Presiding Judge, Francis Obiri in three separate rulings, noted that the process filed by the state had been received by the court. 

He upheld the prayer of the prosecution and accordingly struck out all three cases for want of prosecution. 

Abiel Ashitey Armah, Mohammed Abubakar, Theophilus Kissi and Alhaji Mohammed Dawood were charged with abetment of crime while the two ladies who travelled with drug courier, Nayele Ametefeh now serving an eight year eight months term in the UK, Nana Akua Amponsah and Sadalia Nuhu were on conspiracy charges.

All six had denied the alleged offence and were on bail prior to the ruling.

A member of the Defence Counsel, Frank Davies describes the ruling of the court as victory for the criminal Justice System. 

He said the nolle prose quoi application closes the chapter on the case.

He expressed joy at the decision.
