NPP gov’t took drastic action to solve energy crisis in 2006 & 2007 - Minority Caucus


The Minority NPP Caucus in Parliament says it can’t fathom why Ghana is still having power challenges.
 
It says contrary to what government has been touting over the years that the Kufuor administration did not do much in increasing power generation, the NPP tackled power generation and distribution head on.
 
The claim was made by the Ranking member on the Energy Committee of Parliament, Kobina Tahir Hammond at a news conference in Accra.
 
He said when the NPP government encountered similar challenges in 2006 and 2007, it took drastic measures to ensure that it ended in a year.

MP for Adansi Asokwa and Ranking member on the Energy Committee of Parliament, Kobina Tahir Hammond also commented on the Auditor General’s report on the extension of electricity to one thousand two hundred communities. 

He said the contract covering this project was signed and approved by parliament in 2009 with no provision for the purchase of cars. 
He said the acquisition of Chrysler and lexus vehicles for monitoring of the project was mind boggling. 

The then acting Minister of Finance, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei former Shed some light on the matter.
