State presents six witnesses in GYEEDA trial

The State has presented its sixth prosecution witness to give evidence in the trial of former National Co-ordinator of  the then NYEP Abuga Pele and  the CEO of Goodwill International, Philip Akpeena Assibit accused of defrauding the state.

The witness, Eric Sunu is an Accountant with GYEEDA. He was led in evidence by Principal State Attorney, Comfort Tasiame and he told the court that the Agency has three accounts with the Bank of Ghana, ABD and GT Bank.

He said the Agency’s source of revenue comes from the communication service tax, NHIS, GETfund and sometimes releases from the Ministry of Finance.

Answering a question on how he prepared a payment voucher for Mr Assibit to be paid to the Management Development and Productivity Institute, MDPI, and Goodwill International Ghana, Mr Sunu said Mr Assibit presented an invoice for the payment of consultancy services provided to GYEEDA.

The witness said the invoice totalling two million dollars was presented and payment was done in four installments.

Mr Sunu said there were further payments of about 835 thousand Ghana cedis being the cost of tracer study conducted by Goodwill International. This he said was also received by Mr Assibit.

Abuga Pele and Mr Assibit have been accused of stealing over four- point- one million Ghana cedis belonging to the state through false pretences.
