New grade scheme for Colleges of Education teachers The Minister of Education, Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang, has announced the development of new grade structure for teachers of Colleges of Education. Under the new scheme, not all staff of the College will qualify for migration unto the payroll of the Colleges. Professor Opoku Agyeman announced this when she inaugurated the Councils of Colleges of Education for the Northern sector in Accra. She said the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has therefore constituted a committee to review data for the migration of staff of the Colleges of education. The Minister of Education urged members of the Council to work at improving the general conditions of Colleges of Education and equip them to perform effectively. Professor Opoku Agyemang lauded the policy of replacing allowances paid to teacher trainees with the students loan. She said the policy has enhanced the image of the teaching profession as students enrol in colleges of Education as a choice to be teachers. Speaking on behalf of the Council Members, the Chair of the Tumu College Education Council, Professor Stephen Kendie, stressed the need to create conducive teaching and learning environment in order to produce the right standard of teachers needed for the training of children. He urged the Council to find innovative ways to improve infrastructure in colleges. GBC
