New COTVET Board inaugurated in Accra

A 15-member reconstituted board of the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, (COTVET), has been inaugurated in Accra. 

The Council is mandated to coordinate and oversee all aspects of vocational training in the country and take measures to ensure quality technical education. 

Inaugurating the Board, the Minister of Education, Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang, tasked the new board members to resource COTVET to intensify policy coordination in terms of monitoring existing projects. 

She said there is the need to restructure the national apprenticeship programme which is dear to the government to empower the informal sector. 

Prof. Opoku Agyemang said government is doing its best to rebrand vocational and technical education in the country for economic transformation. 

The Chairman of the board, Rockson Dogbegah, said it is high time technical education is seen as the backbone of socio-economic development.
