Libya asks UN to lift arms embargo to confront ISIL

Libya's foreign minister, Mohammed al- Dairi, has asked the UN to end an embargo on the sale of weapons to that country's internationally recognised government. 

This will help support its army as it confronts the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group. 

Mohammed al-Dairi told the UN Security Council in New York that the UN has a legal responsibility to help in rebuilding Libya's army. 

He said Libya needs a decisive policy from the international community to help rebuild the capacity of the national army.
