Government Lifts Ban On International Conferences


Government has lifted a moratorium on the holding of International Conferences and fora in Ghana.

The moratorium placed on the holding of International Conferences and fora in the country, was on account of the recent Ebola outbreak in the sub-region.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Minister of Communications Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and copied to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

It would be recalled that in August last year, government announced the cancellation of all international conferences. The decision formed part of measures to in place by government to prevent the spread of the deadly virus into the country.

Ebola has claimed over 1,000 lives across West Africa since the latest outbreak was first reported in March this year, with Guinnea, Sierra Leone and Liberia being the hardest hit countries while Nigeria has reported a number of cases and three deaths.

LIFTING OF MORATORIUM ON INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES

In August, 2014, the Government reviewed and evaluated the interventions instituted to prevent the deadly Ebola Viral Disease in 
Ghana.

Consistent with the firm decision of the ECOWAS Commission that all meetings and missions be suspended unless absolutely essential and well-guided, a moratorium was subsequently placed on all international conferences and international gatherings which had the potential of spreading the Ebola Virus.

The moratorium placed on the holding of International Conferences and fora in Ghana on account of the recent Ebola outbreak in the sub-region, has been lifted forthwith until otherwise directed.
