NDC Reacts To NPP ‘Won Gbo’ Demo The NDC has asked Ghanaians to reject the kind of politics by the NPP that celebrates every national setback for the sole purpose of achieving narrow political gains. At a news conference shortly after the ‘Won Gbo’ demonstration by the NPP, the NDC said through collective effort, Ghana can work to overcome the challenges in the sector. National Organiser of the NDC, Kofi Adams assured the public that the NDC is aware of the power crisis and is working feverishly to address it. Mr Adams explained that the NPP could have submitted a proposal and alternative measures to help solve the crisis rather than hitting the streets. He noted the demonstration by the NPP shows the party is bereft of new ideas and not up to task of contributing to the national development. Mr Kofi Adams also reacted to rumours that some NDC supporters joined the demonstration, saying no member of the NDC joined the demonstration. Thousands of Ghanaians on Wednesday poured onto the principal streets of Accra to vent their frustration at the worsening power situation. The demonstration dubbed ‘Won Gbo’, meaning “we are dying” in Ga, saw the big wigs of the opposition NPP, such as the Minority Leader in Parliament Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joe Ghartey, the NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong and NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo. Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has applauded the conduct of police personnel deployed to handle the NPP demonstration in Accra. He said despite some disregard to rules and regulations agreed early on with the organisers of the demonstration on the appropriate routes, he is satisfied with the outcome of the exercise. DCOP Yohuno however said the command in future will be strict on such issues in order to maintain sanity and dignity for both demonstrators and national security. DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno also announced that the command will meet with organisers of the demonstration to answer why they failed to comply with the arrangements on the agreed routes.
