Former Minister Owusu-Adjapong's wife wins husband's golf tourney Mrs. Adelaide Owusu-Adjapong has once again achieved the enviable 'Host and win' tag following victory in the ladies event of the 2015 edition of the annual O.A. Special Invitational golf tournament held in honour of her husband, Hon. Felix Owusu-Adjapong at the Tema Country Golf Club on Saturday. The former Member of Parliament, Majority Leader and Minister of many portfolios hosted this year's tournament to a great success, even more worth celebrating on his birthday when a happy birthday song was sung in his honour before the prize giving ceremony. There was even much more to celebrate in the end because of the victory of Mrs. Owusu-Adjapong returned a net of 71 to beat her nearest challenger by 4 clear shots to run away with the ladies group A trophy for the second year in a row. "I feel good because it wasn't easy, my husband hosted and I won so I am very happy," Mrs. Owusu-Adjapong told Allsports.com.gh in hilarity as she brandished her tournament trophy. "Last year too I won, if you know how to play golf even if they put you in prison and you come out, you will still win," she added. Very grateful to everybody for participation was Hon. Owusu-Adjapong himself as he was joined by some of his grandchildren to celebrate what was also his birthday of course. "Thanks everyone for showing up to play this tournament in my honour, I'm very grateful," the former President of Tema Country Golf Club began his speech. "Let me thank the Captain for giving us the opportunity to play on his course. Let me also thank Zipnet for sponsoring this tournament, for providing us with trophies, prizes food, drinks, everything. Mr. Owusu-Adjapong also took time to hail the announcement by Noel Hammond, captain of the Tema Country Golf Club to offer two years of free membership to all staff of Zipnet who wish to join the Tema based club. "I also thank the Captain for giving (Zipnet staff) free membership and I hope next year during the O.A. Special, more and more of their executives will be playing and not following us," Hon Felix Owusu-Adjapong stated. In the event, evergreen Mona Captan went home with the runner-up trophy after returning net 75 to beat experienced Florence Etwi-Barimah AKA Lady Scientific (net 77) into 3rd place in the ladies main event. Ladies group B saw Anita Manwani crowned champion on a returned net of 80 to beat Diana Baiden (81) into second position, both went home with a trophy each. 2-time Tigo Tema champion, Peter Amenyo won the men scratch event, beating Patrick Tender into second place on a returned net of 70 to Tender's 71 as both also received a trophy. Reuben Avoryi emerge the men group A winner on net 64 beating Evans Darko-Mensah (68), Alex Fiagome (72) and F. K. Dorkey into 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions in that order, all received trophies. Men's group B was won in overwhelming fashion by Isaac Bentil who returned net 60 to beat by 12 clear points 2nd prize winner, Augustine Mensah with Joseph Nettey a further shot back (73) in 3rd place, all again got trophies for their effort. Trophies were also handed to both men and ladies winners of closest to the pin as well as longest drive. In the event, Diana Baiden and Godwin Assem emerged with the closest to the pin gongs whilst Leticia Amponsah-Mensah and S.K. Ayornu produced the longest drives. The professionals were not left out of the party with Vincent Torgah beating the field to win the GH¢650 (Six hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis) top prize with runner-up Emmanuel Osei earning GH¢450 and 3rd placed Brave Victor Mensah taking home GH¢400.
