Ministry Of Education Steps Up Efforts To Address Power Challenges In Tertiary Institutions

Deputy Minister in charge of tertiary education, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa says the ministry will meet with partners in the power industry on the 23rd of this month to step up efforts in addressing the current power crisis in tertiary institutions. 

The meeting comes as the power outages are hampering academic performance of students. 

The deputy minister said this at an annual meeting of student leaders in Accra. 

Students in basic and second cycle institutions especially those in boarding houses are struggling with their studies due to the worsening power outages. 

A visit to some basic and senior high schools in the Accra metropolis showed that students are really having a difficult time dealing with the power crises especially with the load shedding time-table and therefore not able to plan their prep time. 

The situation the schools say is so serious that school heads have to resort to hiring power plants and this is taking a toll on their finances. 

Meanwhile, some students at Accra Polytechnic also expressed their frustration at how the power outages are affecting their studies.
