GMA President bemoans dilapidated health facilities


The President of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, has bemoaned the poor state of public health facilities across the Country. 

Dr. Opoku-Adusei, who is also a renowned gynecologist and Obstetrician, said most public health facilities have been overstretched and cannot absorb the huge number of patients that call at the facilities. 

Dr.  Opoku-Adusei, made these remarks in an interview with GBC’s Obonu News in Tema, after a courtesy call on the Tema Maŋtsɛ, in his new capacity as the Medical Director of the Tema General Hospital. 

The new Medical Director of the Tema General Hospital, Dr. Opoku-Adusei, was accompanied by the Tema Metropolitan Health Director, Dr. John Yabani, the Assembly Member for the Valco Electoral Area, Retired Captain Ben Duah and three senior staff of the Hospital. 

Dr. Opoku-Adusei said to ensure effective health care delivery in the Country, it is important for the government to undertake a holistic review of the Nation’s health facilities to meet international standards.

Dr. Opoku-Adusei also expressed displeasure at the current state of the Tema General Hospital; saying inas-much as health officials do their bid to provide better health services, it behooves the government to complement their efforts by renovating and consistently providing state-of-the-art facilities to meet the increasing demands of reported health cases.

The Tema Maŋtsɛ, Osɔŋaa Dr. Nii Adjei Kraku, said the Traditional Council is liaising with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and other stakeholders to help improve health care in the region. 

Nii Tema admonished nurses to exhibit high levels of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
