Social Welfare Department reacts to Anas’ exposé

The Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Samson Nii Trebi, has refuted assertions that the department does not undertake regular supervision of orphanages that is why operators abuse children in those homes. 

Reacting to the latest exposé by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas on the abuse of children at the Countryside Orphanage at Bawjiase, Nii Trebi said officials from the department routinely join regional and district staff on monitoring visits to such facilities nationwide. 

Nii Trebi also revealed that about eighty homes have been closed down in the last four years.
