Protect the rights of aged women and young girls – Acting Director, Ministry of Gender

Despite the continuous efforts by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to close down witches camps in the country, aged women accused of witchcraft still face the danger of physical and psychological abuse by society.

They stand the risk of being lynched, neglected by family members or being stereotyped by some religious groups.

Based on this, the Acting Director at the Gender Department of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Kate Bob-Milliar has called on civil society, religious groups and all other stakeholders to partner government in protecting the rights of aged women and young girls at the risk of being branded witches.

Mrs Bob-Milliar was speaking at a stakeholders meeting to mobilise local gender perspectives on the Post 2015 Development Agenda in Accra.
