South Africa could not hold on to another lead as Senegal equalize to end game in a 1-1 draw

The group that grasped all the attention after the draw for the 2015 African Cup of Nations was made continue to create headlines in Equatorial Guinea.

Moussa Sow sowed a seed of uncertainty in the chances of the Black Stars qualify from their group in the first Group C game of the tournament and made the back pages like never before in the tournament.

Then Algeria’s comeback win against South Africa remains arguably the most entertaining game of the AFCON 2015 tournament in Equatorial Guinea so far.

So on a day when the teams in Group C played their second games in the tournament, expectations were high. 

High enough to send fans of all four team anxiously waiting for their fates. Because on day when so much could be decided, very little could equally become known and Asamoah Gyan’s last minute goal against Algeria made it mixture of both.

Senegal entered their second group game against South Africa knowing a win puts them in a very strong position after Algeria were beated by Ghana.

South Africa on the other hand knew that the group would be blown wide open if they recorded their first with of the 2015 African Cup of Nations against Senegal.

The stakes involved in the game saw two determined sides lock horns for three crucial points with no margin for error.

Both side battled it out in the first half but none could take the lead as South Africa and Senegal went into the first half interval with a 0-0 scoreline.

Mathews Oupa Manyisa had a quick reaction to whatever his manager might have said about taking their chances as the South African player scored to put his side in a 1-0 lead two minutes after the first half break, blowing the group wide open.

But a South African side that lost a one goal lead to lose 3-1 against Algeria once again couldn’t hold on.

Kara Mbodji scored for Senegal 13 minutes afte Manyisa’s goal to put the sides level at 1-1.

The teams battled for all three points knowing what is at stake in the final half hour of the game but none could find the back of the net.

At the end of second group game of the day for Group C, South Africa 1-1 Senegal.
Senegal top Group C with 4 points. Ghana and Algeria are in second and third positions respectively with 3 points. South Africa have a point.

With all teams very capable of qualifying to the next round of the competition, it’s game on in the final group games.
