One Person Confirmed Dead At Akwasidae Festival In Akyem Swedru As 16 People Are Arrested

One person has been confirmed dead and many others sustained various degrees of injury in a disturbance at Akyem Swedru in the Eastern Region. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nketia Yeboah said 16 people have been arrested in connection with the incident. 

He explained that a number of young men started the riot by throwing stones at the Chief and people of the area when they were pouring libation, as part of the Akwasidae festival.

DCOP Nketia Yeboah advised the youth and people in the area to use the proper channel to address their grievances.
