Court adjourns cross-examination of sodomised victim case

Cross examination of the 16 year old victim allegedly sodomised by Effia Nkwanta based Senior Medical Doctor Sulley Ali Gabass could not proceed as scheduled on Tuesday. 

Consequently, the Circuit Court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyemang Budu adjourned the case to the 21st of this month.

The adjournment was after counsel for Dr Gabass presented a medical report to the court that the accused person was unwell and needed some time to recover.

The defence counsel started cross-examination on Tuesday but was unable to complete.

Dr Gabass is alleged to have defiled the Senior High School student on a number of occasions at Kasoa New Market area and his residence at Alajo in Accra after the two became friends in September 2013 through the social media network, Facebook.

He faces charges of defilement and unnatural carnal knowledge but has denied the offence.

Meanwhile, lawyer for Dr Ali Gabass, John Benson has cautioned the media about false reportage on proceedings in court.

Mr Benson addressing the issue of inaccurate reporting on the case to the press cited a Joy FM report on the 'supposed' denial of bail to Ali Gabass described as 'sick', at Tuesday's proceedings. 

The Defence Counsel said nowhere in the cross-examination of the defence did the issue of bail come up. 

He has given the private media house a 72 hour ultimatum to retract the story in the same manner as it was published.
