Use festivals to bring peace and unity to accelerate development- Dr. Heloo



The Deputy Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Bernice Heloo has noted that, the celebration of traditional festivals help to strengthen the social cohesion of the people and direct it for development. 

She therefore called on traditional leaders and their people to use festivals to bring peace and unity among themselves in order to accelerate development in their communities. 

Dr. Heloo made the call at a durbar to climax the 25th Annual Dunenyoza of the chiefs and people of Fodome Hlorma in the Hohoe Municipality. 

The occasion was also used to inaugurate a forty thousand Ghana cedis community library to enhance reading habit among pupils and students in the area. 

Dr. Heloo who is also the M.P for the area commended the chiefs and people for their support to government in the provision of quality education to the area. 

She noted that education is the only means of uplifting socio-economic livelihood of the people and appealed to parents not to be discouraged by the deplorable education facilities to withdraw their children from going to school. 

She noted that the importance of library or computer laboratory cannot be downplayed in ensuring quality education and advised the community leaders, teachers and pupils to maintain the facility to derive its maximum benefit. 

The patron of the Fodome Dunenyo Development Association, Constant Yaw Tsedza disclosed that funds raised from the previous celebrations were used to support extension of electricity to the community and rehabilitation of some infrastructural projects. 

Mr. Tsedza also explained that, funds realized during this year’s celebration will be channeled towards the construction of mechanized borehole to address the water needs of the people in the community. 

The Dufia of Fodome Hlorma Togbe Diabo commended the citizens for the unity and commitment to lifting the socio-economic livelihood of the people through self-help projects. 

He explained that government alone cannot take the responsibility of their needs hence the need for the community to take up some projects to improve their lots.
