Sierra Leone calls for national day of fasting and prayer to end Ebola


Sierra Leone President, Ernest Bai Koroma has asked the country to begin a week of fasting and prayers to end the Ebola virus that has killed more than two thousand, 700 people in the country.

In a broadcast on New Year Day, President Koroma said the seven days of prayers and fasting would begin immediately.

He said he is aware it will be difficult but urged them because they are people who have built their humanity on hugging, shaking hands, caring for the sick and showing communal empathy by participating in funeral activities."

But today the Ebola devil of illness and death hides in the innocent clothing of their culture to get them.

The WHO says the worst outbreak of the virus, on record is unabated in West Africa, especially in Sierra Leone.

The number of known cases globally has exceeded 20 thousand.

President Koroma said schools which have been shut since July to curb the spread of the virus would reopen soon.

Many schools are being used as Ebola holding centres, raising questions as to how soon they will be able to reopen.

He urged people not to touch the sick or corpses and not to disobey quarantine orders.
