ECG workers  Protest Against Dismissal Of Managing Director Rev William Hutton-Mensah


Workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Eastern and Central Regions are protesting against the dismissal of their Managing Director, Rev William Hutton-Mensah. 

Radio Ghana's Central Regional Correspondent Kofi Sakyiamah Pobi reports that workers of the company are wearing red armed bands calling for the re-instatement of their boss Rev Hutton-Mensah.

Meanwhile, In Koforidua, the workers, some of whom tied their wrists and necks with red bands and sang war songs, called on government to quickly reinstate their MD else they will advise themselves. 

They described their boss as a competent leader who has exhibited leadership qualities to bring transformation to the company through strategic planning. 

The workers also noted with concern the way their head was relieved of his post in spite of his honest and dedicated service to the company. 

They wondered why three organisations namely Volta River Authority, GRIDCO and ECG responsible for power supply but only the ECG head was dismissed leaving the others. 

The workers also disclosed that within three years the company has been headed by three different persons which does not augur well for good administration. 

They therefore asked government to tackle the real problem of energy supply instead of shifting the blame on innocent people to have their hard earned images tarnished.

Last Friday, November 21, 2014, President Mahama, in a statement, directed Rev Ing. Hutton-Mensah to report to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum for re-assignment on resumption from his annual leave.

It asked that Mr Robert Dwamena, the Director of Procurement of the company, should act as the managing director. 

The decision came in the wake of an intense load-shedding exercise, following which households and companies do not get electricity supply for several days.
