Prevention of violent extremism under spotlight at UN


The prevention of violent extremism and the spread of terrorism is coming under the spotlight at the UN on Tuesday.

The Counter-Terrorism Committee, which was established by the Security Council, is looking at how to counter the growth of terrorist networks and their increasingly violent activities.

The rise of the militant terrorist group known as ISIL in Syria and Iraq is just one example the Committee may discuss.
ISIL has become infamous across the world following the beheadings of western journalists.

The Foreign Minister of Morocco, Ahmed Toufik, is expected to share the experience of his country's counter-radicalization policy which had been introduced in response to the 2003 terrorist bombings in Casablanca.

The strategy seeks to prevent the abuse of religion to justify and incite terrorist violence and to strengthen religious identity by promoting tolerance and moderation.
