EC issues deadline for transfer of votes The Electoral Commission has set Monday, October 13 as the deadline for the transfer of votes by prospective candidates for the forthcoming District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections. According to the Commission, the special exercise will enable prospective candidates desirous of contesting the elections in electoral areas and Units other than where they registered as voters to transfer their votes to enable them file their nominations and to contest the elections in those Electoral Areas or Units. A statement by the Commission Monday said the exercise is in accordance with Regulation 20 (1) (3) (a) of the Public Elections Regulations, 2012 (C.I 75) and that all applications for transfer of votes must be made in person to the District Officer of the Commission in the district where the applicant seeks to contest the election. “Where the application relates to the District Assembly election the applicant should have resided in the district for an aggregate period of not less than twelve (12) months in the four (4) years preceding the election. “Where the application relates to the Unit Committee election the applicant must have lived in the particular Unit where he/she seeks to contest the election for an aggregate period of not less than twelve (12) months in the four (4) years preceding the election,” the statement said. The statement, which was signed the Deputy Chairman (Operation) of the Commission, Mr. Amadu Sulley reminded the public that a transfer of vote, once effected, is permanent and shall remain the new polling station of the applicant. Below is the Full Statement: TRANSFER OF VOTES TO CONTEST UPCOMING DISTRICT LEVEL ELECTIONS In accordance with Regulation 20 (1) (3) (a) of the Public Elections Regulations, 2012 (C.I 75), the Electoral Commission is undertaking a special exercise to transfer the votes of prospective candidates who are desirous of contesting the upcoming District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections in electoral areas and Units other than where they registered as voters, to enable them to file their nominations and to contest the elections in those Electoral Areas or Units.
