President Mahama optimistic international arbitration will end disputed maritime boundary with Cote d’Ivoire

President Mahama believes that an international arbitration will bring finality to the dispute between Ghana and Cote d'ivoire on their maritime boundary.

It relates to the buffer between the two in the gulf of guinea which is rich in oil and gas. 

President Mahama expressed the sentiments in answer to a question by an Ivorian at a meeting in Boston USA.

He said, Cote d’Ivoire in making a case has shifted the goal post many times but believes an international arbitration will bring an end to the case.

Ghana produces nearly 300 thousand barrels of crude oil per day and is currently the fourth largest producer on the West coast of Africa.

Cote d’Ivoire has 90 thousand barrels as her peak production level.

Both countries are prospecting new oil wells to ramp up production to significant levels.
