Fire guts Winneba ECG Sub-station A Fire outbreak was reported at a Sub-station of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Asafor- a suburb of Winneba- in the Central region. Reports say the fire which started around 8pm on Saturday, was triggered by a faulty transformer at the station resulting in a total blackout in Winneba and many of its surrounding towns and villages. The station serves areas like Apam, Kasoa, Winneba, Swedru, among others. Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service rushed to the scene to douse the fire. The cause of the fire outbreak is unknown however, the main transformer burnt down completely. It is not clear when electricity supply to the communities will be restored but engineers of the company are expected at the site on Sunday to fix the problem. According to the report, two of the fire officers were knocked unconscious in their attempt to quench the fire, following toxic fumes they had inhaled. However, the officers are said to be responding to treatment. GBC
