President Mahama Identifies Vibrant Media As Part Of Solution To Corruption As He Addresses UN General Assembly

President John Mahama has acknowledged that the most important instrument in the fight against corruption is a free, open and vibrant media landscape. 

This is because the media serve as watch dog and put public officers on their toes. 

President Mahama was contributing to a discussion on Open Governance, Initiate Transparency and Accountability on the sidelines of the 2014 UN General Assembly in New York. 

Meanwhile, addressing world leaders at the 69th United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, President Mahama said Ebola is not a Liberian problem, nor a Sierra Leonean, a Guinean problem or  just a West African problem but Ebola is a problem of the world because it is a disease that knows no boundaries.

He said the disease is wreaking havoc on the world’s economy and  the battle against the virus should not be left to West Africa alone.

He commended UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon and the Security Council for establishing the United Nations Mission on Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) of which Ghana has offered the use of its capital as a base of operations for activities geared towards the containment of the disease.
