Human Rights Groups welcome arrest of Charles Taylor's female commander for war crimes

Rights Groups have welcomed the arrest in Belgium of a female commander of Charles Taylor's rebel group for war crimes allegedly committed during Liberia's civil war. 

The arrest follows complaints filed on behalf of three victims of an offensive in 1992 known as Operation Octopus. 

She is accused of brutally killing people because they were members of ethnic groups such as the Mandigos and the Krahns.

Martina Johnson has not yet responded to accusations of involvement in mutilation and mass killings. 

Miss Johnson who was arrested yesterday in Gent, is due to appear in court today for a decision on whether she will be in detention during legal proceedings or not.

US-Based Human Rights Watch said her arrest is a major advance for justice.
