Awareness Creating Workshop on Export held in Koforidua The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), in its quest to raise awareness on the potentials of the professional services Export has organized a day’s workshop for some stakeholders in the business sector, in Koforidua in the Eastern Region. Participants were taken through medical tourism, business process outsourcing and private sector consultancy. The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Gideon Quarcoo, noted that the Professional Service Sector has the potential to bring the country the needed foreign exchange. He said GEPA, has in that regard demonstrated its commitment to expand the export net to cover myriad of activities in the country. In pursuance of the ambition, GEPA, Mr. Quarcoo said, has undertaken series of activities which include distribution of the strategy document to key stakeholders, awareness campaign and collection of data on the level of educational service in the country. He said GEPA is also developing a comprehensive directory of professional service providers and exporters which will be launched soon. Mr. Quarcoo was optimistic that, with the inclusion of oil in the national export portfolio, oil export commodities will augment GEPA efforts consolidating the gains it has chalked up over the years. The Head of Services of GEPA, Banda Zakari Abdallah, said export service is when work or services rendered beyond the shores of the country. He said such services are categorized into four areas namely, cross border, consumption abroad commercial presence and movement of the natural person. According to the World Trade Organization, he said, Ghana gained three point three billion dollars in exports services in 2012 which reduced to two point five billion last year. He said much needs to be done in enhancing professional service export to the benefit of the country. Mr. Abdallah, mentioned financial constraint as its major challenge in promoting the sector. GBC
